Evita at the #DubaiOpera

Quite a while ago I went to see Evita in Dubai, but i forgot to hit "Publish". Better late than never.

The woman who played Evita had an incredible voice. Other than that, I can't believe that Andrew Lloyd Webber, creator is such masterpieces as Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon, was the creator. I was totally underwhelmed by the "story" [read: lack thereof] and the chords in the opening scene sent a revolting shiver down to my spine that I could not shake until intermission.

Still, the setting, the complex and the venue are incredible.
Look closely, there are duck-bananas on the prowl!!


I'm in Dubai for the weekend for a workshop and just got back to the hotel after seeing Evita at the Dubai Opera. This was my first visit to this venue, although it is down by the Burj Khalifa area which I have visited several times.

While the journey through the parking garage to the "Opera Section" was long and winding, I was rewarded with a visual feast when I finally emerged from the underground concrete maze.

Still No Word

It is 2:19 a.m. in Tel Aviv and the jetlag is in full swing. I awoke about 30 minutes ago and about 2 minutes later I knew I was up for a while.  A few minutes after that I realized my phone is in airplane mode and I wouldn't have heard the doctor call if she did. My whole body started to buzz as I felt anxiety wash over me. Would the doctor leave a message? What if she called since I went to sleep at 9:30, overcome by exhaustion and there is a message to call back? Worse, what if there is a message to call back quickly? Would a doctor leave such a message? I was down the rabbit hole. I needed to turn on the phone to stop the madness in my head (does anybody remeber the " Stop the Insanity !" lady? I think of her yelling every time I say 'Stop the Madness' even though I am misquoting). Airplane mode off. No messages. Luckily if she did call with results there is no evidence. Thank you, God! What have I done? #Homesick #Lonely

It finally hit. I have literally  moved to the other side of the world.  Both this and yesterday mornings I awakened after a fantastic night's sleep and cried when I realized I am still here. In my apartment-that-feels-like-a-hotel-room-still. Cold marble floors. Echo-y 10 foot ceilings. It is SO hot. I knew this going in, and is exactly how I expected it. Maybe I was hoping I was wrong. I miss being outside all the time in Boise. I'm suddenly wishing I had spent way more time in the mountains this summer. I am SO cold. Just like Texas, they haven't figured out that when it's 114 outside, the A/C set to 80 would be sufficient. Every inside venue is freezing cold. I am lonely. My coworkers are really nice and kind but that doesn't seem to matter. There is nothing to do except be in a mall. I joined the wrong gym in my impulsiveness to get settled. And it's in a mall. My apartment is only on the 3rd floor and overlooks...a mall. I have no wifi. Ev
